Stanford alumni were on full display both on and off the field in last weekend’s NFL divisional playoff round, specifically in the NFC where Cardinal wide receivers led their respective offenses both in the air and on the ground. In the wake of the games this weekend, however, former Cardinal and Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was part of some ongoing controversy off the field with the NFL stirred by head coach Pete Carroll.
Stanford alumni had a dominant display in the Wild Card round of the 2017 NFL playoffs. Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin stole the show and a stole a touchdown in Seahawks’s 26-6 victory over the Detroit Lions.

Stanford alumni on the Seattle Seahawks stole the show this week, as wide receiver Doug Baldwin and cornerback Richard Sherman, who tallied seven tackles and a key fumble recovery, played big-time roles in Seattle’s 31-24 road win against the Patriots. However, on an otherwise quiet offensive day, Stanford alumni produced several strong defensive efforts with key contributions from Green Bay’s Blake Martinez, Washington’s Trent Murphy, Cleveland’s Ed Reynolds and Arizona’s Josh Mauro.
Former members of the Stanford receiving corps put together an impressive Week 9. Behind touchdowns by Falcons tight ends Austin Hooper and Levine Toilolo, Stanford tight ends and receivers were active across the NFL, with Philadelphia’s Zach Ertz, New Orleans’ Coby Fleener, Green Bay’s Ty Montgomery and Seattle’s Doug Baldwin also making notable contributions. On defense, Stanford alumnus Richard Sherman, an ex-Stanford receiver turned cornerback himself, led a strong showing for Seattle in the team’s Monday night victory.
