On the heels of earning Naismith Trophy finalist honors, junior forward Chiney Ogwumike was named a 2013 Associated Press First Team All-American on Tuesday. Chiney and her older sister, Nneka Ogwumike ’12, became the first sister pair to earn AP First Team All-American distinctions.

Living up to its brand-new No. 1 ranking, the Stanford women’s basketball team routed Long Beach State 77-41 at Maples Pavilion yesterday. The win capped a perfect Thanksgiving break for the team, which also swept Baylor, Hawai’i and Tennessee-Martin a week ago to win the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic and take the top-spot in the rankings from the Bears.
Coming off of two decisive exhibition victories last week, the Stanford women’s basketball team is primed and ready to start the 2012-13 regular season campaign. The No. 4 Cardinal opens the season tonight against the Fresno State Bulldogs hoping to continue its dominance in season openers. It has been a decade since Stanford lost its first game of the year.
The Stanford women’s basketball team has a tough act to follow. Last year, the Cardinal went 35-2 overall and 18-0 in the Pac-12, but heads into this season with Nnemka Ogwumike, an All-American last season and the WNBA rookie of the year this year after being selected in the WNBA Draft.
