The Cardinal will surely have an exciting weekend as the men’s and women’s track and field team heads to Seattle in full force for the University of Washington (UW) Invitational.
In a race that came down to the final strides, the 2017 NCAA outdoor 5,000-meter champion Grant Fisher won the Pre-National Invitational at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Wisconsin leading the No. 5 Cardinal men (82) to a second place finish behind No. 1 Northern Arizona (41). The women, led by fifth-year Elise Cranny and junior Fiona O’Keefe, placed fourth and fifth, respectively, enroute to a third place finish for the No. 5 Cardinal women (129) behind No. 3 New Mexico (67) and No. 10 Michigan (120).
Stanford’s men’s and women’s cross country teams swept this past weekend at the 44th Stanford Invitational on Saturday. After a year hiatus, the invitational welcomed nearly 4,000 runners to the Stanford Golf Course, home of this year’s course. In a meet that comprised high school and collegiate races, Stanford’s men’s and women’s team placed atop ranked NCAA competition.
After the No. 6 Cardinal men placed fourth and the No. 14 women finished eighth at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitation earlier this month, both Stanford cross-country teams will head up to the Springfield Golf Club in Eugene, Oregon, to toe the line at Friday’s Pac-12 Cross Country Championships.
Despite sitting part of their strongest runners, Stanford men’s and women’s cross country equally succeeded in Oregon this Friday, both claiming second place of the Bill Dellinger invitational.
