Service and attacking errors hindered the ability of No. 9 Stanford men’s volleyball (13-13, 8-10 MPSF) to even nip at the heels of No. 3 BYU (24-3, 16-2) in the MPSF quarterfinals on Saturday in Provo, Utah, where the Cougars swept the match 25-19, 25-21, 25-18.
After dropping Friday’s match against No. 5 UC Irvine (19-6, 13-5 MPSF), No. 8 Stanford men’s volleyball was able to turn it around and secure a win on Saturday, sweeping UC San Diego (7-19, 3-15) in the final match of the regular season. With the win, Stanford closes out the regular season with a record of 13-12 and 8-10 in MPSF play.
After securing a playoff berth with its five-set win over UC San Diego on Saturday, No. 9 Stanford men’s volleyball (12-11, 7-9 MPSF) will look to wrap up the regular season this weekend as it takes on No. 5 UC Irvine (17-6, 11-5 MPSF) on Friday and faces off with UCSD (7-17, 3-13 MPSF) on Saturday.
On a senior night that recognized the final regular season match at Maples Pavilion for three Cardinal players, No. 9 Stanford men’s volleyball (12-11, 7-9 MPSF) delivered a five-set comeback victory over UC San Diego (7-17, 3-13) on Saturday, ending a four-game losing streak and clinching a spot in the MPSF playoffs, its ninth in the past ten years.
This past weekend, Stanford men’s volleyball (11-9, 6-7 MPSF) flew across the Pacific in hopes of at least one underdog win against No. 4 Hawaii (20-2, 10-2). The team was not wishing this without precedent, as the then-No. 6 Cardinal took out then-No. 4 Hawaii twice last year in a doubleheader at Maples Pavilion.
No. 8 Stanford men’s volleyball (11-7, 6-5 MPSF) continued its winning ways in Pennsylvania this weekend, sweeping No. 15 Penn State (12-7, 6-2 EIVA) 25-20, 25-17, 25-23 on Saturday. The Cardinal held the advantage in every major statistical category and outhit the Nittany Lions .444 to .261 over the course of the match. This marks a season-high team hitting percentage for Stanford.
After a tough start of the season for Stanford men’s volleyball (9-7, 6-5 Pac-12), the Cardinal will look to turn the tide with a few victories as they travel to Pennsylvania to play unranked Lees-McRae College (5-10) on Friday and No. 15 Penn State (11-6) on Saturday.
Up against third-ranked BYU (14-2, 8-1 MPSF), No. 8 Stanford men’s volleyball (9-7, 6-5) struggled to deliver offensively in back-to-back matches, falling 0-3 on Thursday before dropping Friday’s match 1-3 at home.
