No. 1 men’s water polo (13-1, 0-0 MPSF) cemented their top ranking with two more victories this weekend on a trip to Southern California. First, the Cardinal defeated No. 8 California State University, Long Beach (10-8, 0-0 GCC) on Saturday 11-5, then travelled to Orange County, where they beat No. 13 University of California, Irvine (16-7, 0-0 GCC).
This weekend, the No.1 Stanford men’s water polo team (12-1, 0-0 MPSF) hits the road for two games, first on Saturday at No. 8 Long Beach State (10-7, 0-0 GGC) and then on Sunday at No. 13 UC-Irvine (6-6, 0-0 GGC).
The newly minted No. 1 men’s water polo team (11-1, 0-0 MPSF) will look to retain their rank atop the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) against Santa Clara (8-4, 0-0 MPSF) on Wednesday. The Cardinal are a perfect 4-0 on the road and are winners of their last six straight matches.
No. 1 men’s water polo (11-1, 0-0 MPSF) claimed an 11-8 victory against No. 3 Pacific on Sunday afternoon (10-2, 0-0 GCC), extending Stanford’s winning streak to six games. Entering the weekend, both teams had a 10-1 record, with Pacific’s only loss having been against the Cardinal in the SoCal Invitational.
Stanford had a total of five individual medal winners across three sports. Cardinal athletes were also a part of two medal-winning teams.
Stanford will be well represented at the 2019 World University Games in Naples, Italy. Representing eight programs and three countries, 20 Cardinal athletes will be competing at the 30th Summer Universiade from July 3-14.
