As I climbed to the upper levels of the church, white program in my hand, my attention was drawn to the illuminated stage, where the black-clad Stanford Summer Chorus and Junge Kammerphilharmonie Freiburg, a semi-professional orchestra from Freiburg, Germany, stood poised.
