Coming off two impressive home wins against Cal State Bakersfield and Menlo College this past weekend, the Cardinal wrestling team will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. this Sunday to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas, then do battle with the Mocs from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The Stanford wrestling team had its first home matches of the season on Sunday against Cal State Bakersfield and Menlo College, with the Bakersfield meet marking the Cardinal’s first Pac-12 dual of the season. The Stanford wrestlers started off their home season strong, beating Bakersfield 28-9 and demolishing Menlo College 41-3
The 2011-12 Cardinal wrestling season got off to an exciting start last Friday with its annual Cardinal vs. White wrestle-offs at Burnham Pavilion. In the first official event of the season, the top two Stanford wrestlers in each weight class went head-to-head to compete for a spot in the starting lineup.
After finishing with a school-record 11th-place finish in last year’s NCAA Championships, the Stanford wrestling team looks to get even better next year, as it will bring in seven freshmen in a recruiting class that was rated 24th-best in the nation.
Two days after defying expectations in a 21-15 victory over then-No. 17 Cal Poly, Stanford wrestling wrapped up its regular season with another upset on Sunday, defeating then-No. 12 Arizona State by a score of 28-11 on the Cardinal’s annual Senior Day
