The Stanford Daily is the independent, student-run newspaper of Stanford University. The Daily was originally founded as a small pamphlet known as The Daily Palo Alto in 1892 and has been a campus fixture ever since. A non-profit organization since 1973, The Stanford Daily is the trusted news source for the Stanford community and its 7,000 undergraduates, 9,000 graduate students, 12,000 faculty and staff and 221,000 alumni around the world.
We are the gateway to the Stanford Community.
The Stanford Daily offers a variety of both print and digital products to advertise in, so we can ensure that advertisers reach who they want, the way they want, at the price they want.
Our print options include the weekly paper and our special issues of The Stanford Daily magazine. We also offer web, social, and email advertising for those who prefer a digital approach.
Feel free to check out this year’s media kits for more information, and reach out to us to tailor an advertising campaign that is right for you!

Advertising Policies
The purpose of these guidelines is to establish concrete guidelines that guide The Stanford Daily’s advertising acceptance process. The Stanford Daily tries not to place any limits on advertising and commercial speech on its platform, unless there is a compelling reason to do so.
The Stanford Daily reserves the right to revise or reject any advertisement that fails to comply with our standards set below, or for any other reason.
Prohibitions
The Daily does not accept advertisements that do any of the following:
- Promote the use or sale of illegal substances or substances that could cause bodily harm
- Promote the use of gambling platforms
- Contains discriminatory or offensive content in regards to race, religion, ethnicity or sexual orientation.
- Contains fraudulent, misleading or baseless claims
- Includes personal attacks
- Calls out by name non-political individuals
- Have the potential to incite violence
Advertising and editorial content
The Daily maintains a clear separation between advertising and journalistic content. The advertising department and newsroom operate independently, with each section operating independently from one another except in extreme circumstances. All advertising is labeled as such.
Sponsored content:
- When publishing third-party content, getting involved/fact-checking actually creates more liability
- Either really vet it or just publish it as an ad
- Add a banner that reads “Third Party Content”
- Keep it in a separate section
- Needs to be really clear
- Some measure of vetting is probably good, not participation or editing/producing the content
Political Advertising
The Daily accepts partisan and non-partisan political ads on its website, newsletter and social media platforms. Advertisers are responsible for including the proper disclosures and disclaimers. All political ads must remain within the criteria specified earlier in this document. The Daily also retains the right to reject any political advertisement for any reason.
