The Stanford men’s tennis team found success this weekend at the 124th Annual Pacific Coast Doubles Championships, with two of the Cardinal’s five doubles teams advancing to the semifinals.
According to tournament director Bill Kellogg, teaching professionals, former tour players, college coaches and even junior players have registered as independent players in the past. Previous tournament champions include John McEnroe, Bobby Riggs, Ted Schroeder and Arthur Ashe.
After disappointing losses against UCLA and USC on the road, the No. 28 Stanford men’s tennis team is looking to move back to .500 on the season in Sunday’s nonconference match at No. 12 Cal.
The clash between the Cardinal (3-4) and the rival Golden Bears (4-4) is predicted to be one of the closest of the season.

On the heels of winning two straight matches against top-50 teams, the Stanford men’s tennis team came up short on Tuesday afternoon, falling to TCU on the Cardinal’s home court. Dropping six of the nine matches that were played on the day, the No. 19 Cardinal (3-2) played catch-up from the start against a deep TCU squad (5-2) that has won four of its last five contests.
No. 10 Stanford men’s tennis begins a stretch of four matches in nine days at 1 p.m. today against No. 48 BYU at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
