If it was looking to bring more success to the Farm, Stanford athletics made the right decision when it decided to add women’s sand volleyball to its existing 35 varsity sports programs. In its inaugural season, the Card finished 7-1, sweeping all three meetings with Santa Clara, falling only to Saint Mary’s and coming out on top against Sacramento State, San Francisco and Pacific.
The Stanford sand volleyball team won its inaugural contest in style, defeating Santa Clara 4-1 at the ACSR Sand Volleyball Courts on Tuesday. A crowd of over 200 fans showed up to support the Cardinal and catch a little slice of history.
As former athletic director Bob Bowlsby moves on to (arguably) greener pastures by becoming commissioner of the Big 12, Stanford is now tasked with filling the hole in its heart left by one of the most successful people to ever hold the position.
