I know that it is a little bit late in the game, but I have just two weeks to find an NFL team. The one previous time I did watch was several years back from the U.K., but I don’t feel I can count that attempt, so for the first time ever I intend to really watch the Super Bowl this year.
Stanford alumni are eligible to purchase tickets to the Dec. 9 Colts game in Indianapolis, Ind., that will include a post-game field pass with an appearance from Andrew Luck ’12, Coby Fleener ’11 M.A. ’12 and Griff Whalen ’12.
A shortened version of this story appeared in The New York Times’ college sports blog The Quad and in The Daily print edition today.
“With the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts select Andrew Luck, quarterback, Stanford…”
Luck strides across the Radio City Music Hall stage in a dark-blue suit and a tie with lilac and lavender stripes, his normally shaggy hair groomed for the occasion. He bear-hugs the league commissioner and flashes a goofy smile for the rows of cameras.
Back at Stanford, in the Rains apartment he shares with Luck, Griff Whalen is also beaming. Staring at the 36-inch TV in the corner of their living room, he watches as the kid from Houston that he’s known since freshman year, talks to Deion Sanders on ESPN.
While a lot of people like to give grades to NFL teams about their draft, I’m going to switch the script a little bit. Instead, I’m going to give some grades to the matches between the (former) Cardinal players and their new NFL teams
While Andrew Luck and David DeCastro might have stolen the headlines as the first two Stanford players selected in the NFL draft, ten other Cardinal players officially made the leap from the Farm to the NFL over the weekend as well.
By now, you’ve probably heard that the great Peyton Manning’s time is over in Indianapolis. Cue the Andrew Luck era for the Colts.
Like I said, we are losing touch with the physical world. Which is why every week I take a few moments to sit down and put pen to paper with a letter to an athlete I admire, but who I hope will listen to some words of wisdom.
