Provost John Etchemendy Ph.D. ‘82 recently approved an Office of Sustainability initiative to install solar panels on a parking structure and on twelve other buildings across campus as a companion project to the Stanford Energy Systems Innovations (SESI) initiative.
Stanford committed to help raise $65 million along with 31 other higher-education institutions as part of the Billion Dollar Green Challenge, which was launched publicly on Tuesday at the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Conference in Pittsburgh. This pot of money will be invested in energy-efficient projects, called “green revolving funds.”
For the third year in a row, Stanford received an A- in the Sustainable Endowment Institute’s annual Green Report Card, earning it an “Overall College Sustainability Leader” designation. The report card reflects a surge in sustainability initiatives on campus, but both the administration and student leaders believe there is much room for improvement.
