About 6.6 percent of applicants were admitted to Stanford Friday when the Office of Undergraduate Admissions released notification letters via email. The number is the lowest in University history, down from last year’s 7.1 percent admit rate.

Stanford has admitted 754 early applicants to the Class of 2015 and deferred about 500 more, Admission Director Bob Patterson said on Monday.

Prosecutors allege Adam Wheeler, who was expelled from Harvard and is facing charges of identity fraud and larceny, applied and was accepted to Stanford for the 2010-11 school year, the AP reported.
