On Monday afternoon, the Stanford College Republicans (SCR) announced their plans to host a discussion with conservative activists Charlie Kirk and Candace Owens. The event, named “Make Stanford Great Again,” will take place in Tresidder Memorial Union’s Oak Lounge on Tuesday, May 29.
These displays function less as a vehicle to undermine social inequality, and more of a means to ‘deepen the self-regard of the educated white elite’.
The 2-unit student-led class CSRE 32SI: “Whiteness” investigates the concept of whiteness and what it means to be white.
When confronted with racial activism, rather than labeling it as overdramatic and annoying, consider that people of color have been fighting systems of oppression since the day they were born. And understand that their anger, no matter how aggressive, no matter how radical, and no matter repetitive, is justified.
Outreach to the Stanford student body is always a hit or a miss, and many times, the hard work and care that goes into the event is not digested by the student body. The want to educate those who have so many resources at their fingertips is sometimes unhealthy.
