While Stanford (19-4, 0-0 Pac-12) wasn’t the unstoppable force of nature this weekend that they have been recently, they still came away from the Cardinal Classic with three more wins.
In the first homestand of the year, No. 12 Stanford (6-1) clinched a series victory over UNLV (4-4) on Sunday after splitting a Saturday doubleheader. All three games were decided by one run.
Sunken Diamond’s home opener will feature No. 12 Stanford (4-0, 0-0 Pac-12) playing host to University of Nevada, Las Vegas, (UNLV) (3-2, 0-0 MW) over Parent’s Weekend. The teams last met in 2013 — a three-game road sweep by the Rebels.
Despite cruising to a 6-1 win against UNLV (7-4) on Saturday in Taube, Stanford women’s tennis (4-3) lost for the first time in almost two years at home as it fell to the hand of rival Florida (5-4) 4-3 the next day.
In the 49th installment of the golf tournament known as The Goodwin, played at the Stanford golf course, No. 12 Stanford men’s golf earned their first victory of the season, fending off No. 1 USC at home. Capitalizing on the home course advantage during the three-day tournament, Stanford led the field from beginning to end. The Cardinal held a nine-shot lead after round one, a one shot lead after round two and finished the tournament back at a nine-shot victory.
After No. 20 Stanford men’s tennis (5-1) swept UNLV and Saint Mary’s over the weekend, the Cardinal now look to take on San Francisco (2-3) on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
No. 20 Stanford men’s tennis (5-1) won both its contests this weekend as it swept UNLV (4-2) on Saturday before blanking Saint Mary (3-2) on Sunday. Both contests saw Stanford victorious by a 7-0 final decision.
