Gary Becker, senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, died at the age of 83 in Chicago on Saturday, May 3. Becker passed away from complications after a recent surgery that followed on from a longtime illness.
Stanford undergraduate admission closed Restrictive Early Action submissions at 11:59 p.m. Monday night, after extending the original deadline by three days due to technical difficulties with the Common Application.
On Wednesday, the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI) announced that President Emeritus Gerhard Casper will serve as the intermediary director for the Institute for the 2012-2013 academic year. Casper’s term as Stanford’s ninth president began in 1992 and ended in 2000. Casper has been a senior fellow at FSI since 2000.
Stanford University tied for fifth place with five other universities in the annual U.S. News & World Report rankings of universities in the United States. Harvard University and Princeton University tied for first place, with Yale University in third and Columbia University in fourth. The California Institute of Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Chicago and University of Pennsylvania tied with Stanford for fifth. Duke University ranked 10th.
