The outdoor track and field season kicks off on Friday with the two-day Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State. Stanford will be represented by a mix of throwers, jumpers and sprinters including a number of notable veterans and freshman standouts.
Harrison Williams claimed the NCAA heptathlon title, becoming the first Cardinal male to win an NCAA multi-event title in program history, while Fiona O’Keeffe, Grant Fisher and Lena Giger all finished in the top three in their respective events.
This past week was packed with competition for the Stanford men’s and women’s track and field teams just three weeks after the end of the indoor season, beginning mid-week with the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays held in Austin from March 30 – April 1 and finishing this weekend with the Stanford Invitational on April 1-2.
The Stanford track and field program will send 33 athletes to the NCAA West Regionals, which begin Thursday in soggy Austin, Texas. Stanford’s 2015 track and field season is officially underway! The team opened up at the University of Washington Preview meet on Saturday, posting solid results across each of the event groups. I’ll break down the performances of each group before looking ahead to upcoming meets and the remainder of the indoor season.
When the Payton Jordan Invitational comes to the Farm each year, it’s always a special occasion, as the race brings not only the best collegiate runners in the nation but also professional runners to Cobb Track at Angell Field in a competition that nearly always offers favorable conditions for middle and long-distance runners. It was certainly an extra-special meet for Stanford runners this year, with personal records being set left and right and school and personal records being shattered.
Hey all. Yesterday was even quieter than Tuesday for our program here at home. The morning distance crew practice was comprised of Will, Garrett, Thomas, Luke and myself. Starting from the track around 7:20 a.m., we headed out going west on Campus Drive towards the hospital, eventually connecting with Junipero Serra and then onto Alpine Road.
