Approximately 700 people gathered at Cemex Auditorium on Saturday for the second annual TEDxStanford event, which featured Stanford-affiliated speakers and performers including football coach David Shaw ’94, Indian folk dance group Basmati Raas and Rhodes Scholar Rachel Kolb ’12 M.A. ’13.
Stockton City Council candidate Michael Tubbs ’12 has had a bit of practice firing up audiences, having spent the last nine months trying to convince Stockton that he has the passion and dedication to effect positive change in the ailing city.
Stockton faces looming bankruptcy, an unemployment rate of 16.6 percent, a failing education system and a high homicide rate. According to ABC News , 56 people were murdered in Stockton last year alone. To help fix these problems and reinvigorate Stockton, Tubbs decided to run for City Council, declaring his candidacy on Feb. 20 of this year. The election will take place on June 15.
