Residential and Dining Enterprises (R&DE) Student Housing has rescinded the proposed treatment of EV family courtyard lawns with herbicide, following protests last summer by Escondido Village (EV) residents.
Starting this summer, the rooftop catwalks of Florence Moore Hall (FloMo) will be removed in a change that has prompted protest from some current residents.
Row houses will soon be equipped with ACES scanners, similar to those in freshmen dorms. Both ITS and R&DE declined to give the cost of the project, though an ITS web page says the cost will be around $5.5 million dollars.
R&DE Student Housing, which manages 5 million square feet of Stanford buildings, spent roughly $50 million on undergraduate and graduate housing renovations this summer. The renovations included improvements to student comfort, energy and water efficiency, health and safety.
Chi Theta Chi (XOX) residents will return to campus this quarter to a house under University management for the first time, as XOX representatives withdrew in August from long-running negotiations with administrators to restore the house’s historical independence.
Installation of locks and alarm systems will begin in September and is expected to continue into the academic year.
Stanford moved to revoke the lease of Chi Theta Chi, one of two non-University operated houses on campus, Wednesday citing lease violations, liability concerns and “pressing life safety issues.”
