Members and allies of the disability community gathered on Friday to rally for a permanent disability community center on campus.
This quarter, students will study coming-of-age stories across both Victorian- and contemporary-era novels in Britain and America in the new course taught by Irena Yamboliev, ENGLISH 127: “The Tragedy of Becoming an Adult.”

Last Thursday, the Program in Writing and Rhetoric, PWR 194: Contemporary Black Rhetorics and OpenXChange’s Open Office Hours Series presented “Hidden in Plain View: Centering Black Voices on Media, Protest and Everyday Life.” Moderated by journalist Tonya Mosely, the event featured Jamilah Lemieux, a senior editor at Ebony Magazine, and Meredith Clark, who teaches journalism at the University of North Texas. Discussion centered around the rising power of black voices in various forms of media. The event was organized by Adam Banks, Faculty Director of the Program in Writing and Rhetoric. The Daily sat down with Banks to discuss the timeliness of the event, his PWR 1 class on black rhetoric and the future of this conversation at Stanford.
We seek to highlight the fact that at the university undergraduate level, at least at Stanford and likely outside of it, there is shamefully little ethical pushback against the use of stories instead of science to try to prove points about the world.
The two programs will enroll approximately 45 students each. Around 88 students ranked ITALIC as one of their top two housing choices, while 98 students ranked SIMILE first.
