González, acclaimed for his acoustic folk cover of The Knife’s electro-pop song “Heartbeats,” is a man of contradictions. His sound is sparse, but his ideas are ambitious. A classical guitarist who grew up listening to latin folk, pop and bossa nova, González played guitar in multiple hardcore punk bands before becoming the indie-folk singer-songwriter we now know him to be.
When I saw a piece in The Guardian on the similarities between foodie-ism and indie rock, I did a double-take — somehow they’d stolen my idea! Well…I guess it’s not actually that hard to see the parallels.
Text from a good friend of mine on Monday afternoon: “So did you wet yourself when Arcade Fire won last night?”
My response: “The Grammys are so mainstream, dude.”
