15th-ranked TCU (11-3, 7-2 Big 12) used an electric fourth quarter to overcome an early 21-3 deficit and defeat 13th-ranked Stanford (9-5, 7-2 Pac 12) 39-37 in the Alamo Bowl on Thursday night in San Antonio.
Stanford has conquered tough defenses before, but TCU’s defense is a different animal. They’re only allowing 17.6 points per game in a Big 12 Conference that is known for its ridiculously high scores week after week.
Tenth-ranked USC (11-2, 8-1 Pac-12) combined a dominant performance from star junior quarterback Sam Darnold with a timely fourth-quarter goal-line stand to pull out a 31-28 victory over 12th-ranked Stanford (9-4, 7-2) in the Pac-12 Championship last Friday night. Darnold finished with 325 yards and two touchdowns on 17 of 24 passing.
No. 14 Stanford football (9-4, 7-3 Pac-12) loses to No. 11 USC Trojans (11-2, 9-1) 31-28 in the 2017 Pac-12 Championship on Friday night in Levi’s Stadium.
As the Pac-12 North winner for the fourth time in the last seven years, the most of any program, No. 12 Stanford (9-3, 8-2 Pac-12) is headed to the Pac-12 Championship game against No. 10 USC (10-2, 8-1 Pac-12), the Pac-12 South division winner. This game will be a rematch from their meeting in Sept. 9 and from the 2015 Pac-12 Championship game.
21st-ranked Stanford (9-3, 7-2 Pac-12) turned a close game into a dominant 38-20 home victory over ninth-ranked Notre Dame (9-3) with a wave of fourth quarter momentum, outscoring the Irish 21-0 in the final period of play. The Cardinal defense came up with three turnovers in the final quarter alone. Sophomore quarterback KJ Costello led the Stanford offense with four touchdown passes.
No. 20 Stanford football (8-3, 7-2 Pac-12) defeated Cal (5-6, 2-6 Pac-12) 17-14 on a clear Saturday night in Stanford Stadium.
The Cardinal are favored around 16 points to beat the Bears and that sounds about right. At home, Stanford football has been dominant at home averaging 42.75 points per game and 294.75 rushing yards per game. The home win over No. 9 Washington was the Cardinal’s most impressive victory of the season as future Heisman runner-up Bryce Love rushed for 166 yards against the top-ranked defense in college. Stanford on the road has been suspect but Stanford at home should not be questioned.
