No. 19 Stanford men’s tennis earned the biggest win of its season to date over the weekend, upsetting No. 5 USC 4-1 behind phenomenal singles play at Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The Cardinal men continued the trend of producing their best tennis in the biggest moments, notching their third top-10 win in three tries and extending their win streak to five. Those feats wouldn’t stand for long, however, as the team fell 4-2 to No. 10 UCLA on Sunday.
Though Stanford was able to grab the doubles point from UCLA for the third time this season, No. 32 Stanford (14-10, 4-3 Pac-12) once again couldn’t match the No. 2 Bruins (21-2, 7-0) in singles as the Cardinal dropped their second consecutive 4-1 decision to UCLA, knocking them out of contention for the Pac-12 Championships title.
Doubles prowess was not enough during a tough weekend in Los Angeles for the Cardinal, as No. 36 Stanford (10-8) failed to come away from a tough doubleheader against No. 5 UCLA (16-2) and No. 9 USC (13-4) with a win, dropping Friday’s match against UCLA 4-1 and Saturday’s match again
