The theme for this year’s FoodInno conference addressed the waste accumulated at every step of the food production process
In this coming school year, and possibly by the end of the month, a large proportion of Stanford’s food waste will be sent to an innovative new reprocessing system operated by Sustainable Alternatives Feed Enterprises (SAFE) that recycles the food waste into usable water, animal food, and biofuel ingredients.
There are people in this country and around the world who are hungry because of food distribution practices. As a part of a large institution with the power to influence others, you have the ability to impact the food system. Be vocal about what types of food you want to see in the dining halls and reflect those demands in the action of eating a low waste diet.
SSS promotes sustainability both on and off campus, taking a holistic approach to environmentally sustainable practices, from raising awareness to waste reduction.
