When the going gets tough, All-Americans show up. On Tuesday, the Stanford baseball team got a massive 11th-inning home run from junior third baseman Stephen Piscotty to nab a 9-7 win over the Pacific Tigers.
Cardinal pitchers teamed up to allow just three hits, but No. 17 Stanford (16-9) couldn’t get its offense moving until late in the game, stranding seven runners and grounding into four double plays in the first seven innings before scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth to surpass the Tigers (10-19).
Stanford baseball survived two furious St. Mary’s rallies in the 7th and 9th innings last night to pull out a 16-14 victory in the last game of its pre-season. On a chilly night, the No. 11 Cardinal scored early and often, but struggled to keep the Gaels (9-12) off the bases. Stanford racked up 19 hits and committed 6 errors in a wacky game at Sunken Diamond.
