The top seeded Stanford women’s basketball team defeated South Carolina 76-60 in a hard fought contest in Fresno last night to move on to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
This summer, the Stanford University School of Medicine will welcome Robert Harrington, M.D., as its new chair. Harrington currently heads the Duke Clinical Research Institute in North Carolina, the largest clinical trial research organization in the world. The Daily spoke with him about his goals for this new position, his upcoming transition across the country and current room for progress at the School of Medicine.
Stanford University tied for fifth place with five other universities in the annual U.S. News & World Report rankings of universities in the United States. Harvard University and Princeton University tied for first place, with Yale University in third and Columbia University in fourth. The California Institute of Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Chicago and University of Pennsylvania tied with Stanford for fifth. Duke University ranked 10th.
Stanford announced yesterday that men’s basketball head coach Johnny Dawkins had signed a contract extension through the 2015-16 season. His previous contract, a six-year deal, was set to expire before the 2013-14 season.
