The 2017 college football season is nearly upon us and Stanford special teams will see plenty of new faces and some returning ones, too. Stanford will have to replace special team savants Conrad Ukropina and Christian McCaffrey but coach Pete Alamar is up to the task.

McCaffrey eclipsed his own career high with 284 yards rushing, adding three touchdowns as the No. 24 Stanford Cardinal (8-3, 6-3 Pac-12) defeated their rivals, the California Golden Bears (4-7, 2-6) 45-31, capturing their seventh straight victory in the Big Game.

Up by two scores late in the third quarter, Stanford football (6-3, 4-3 Pac-12) moved to grind its opponent into sawdust, running the ball on its final 28 offensive plays of the game en route to a 26-15 victory over the visiting Oregon State Beavers (2-7, 1-5 Pac-12) and extending its program-best streak of bowl eligibility to eight consecutive years.
A season’s worth of frustrations were only amplified on Saturday as Stanford (4-3, 2-3 Pac-12) failed to score a touchdown in a 10-5 loss to Colorado (6-2, 4-1 Pac-12), which maintains control of its destiny in the Pac-12 South.
On Stanford’s penultimate drive, senior quarterback Ryan Burns threw an interception with 1:37 remaining. After a Colorado safety, Stanford was unsuccessful in its final play, and the Cardinal (4-3, 3-2 Pac-12) fell to the Buffaloes (6-2, 4-1) by a 10-5 margin.
