Going forward, museums face a plethora of challenges relating to broad audience engagement. To avoid becoming obsolete, museums should highlight the aspects of their exhibits that visitors can’t get elsewhere, such as interaction with original artworks or specimens.
The criminalization of prostitutes only perpetuates the prejudice against them. Also, the criminal records that sex workers accrue prevent their reintegration into the labor market. Adopting the Nordic model is a step towards solving an issue that legalization cannot.
It is reprimandable that a country’s government could condone such explicitly degrading, dehumanizing, and objectifying work for women. Regardless of regulations, human trafficking of prostitutes continues to exist in the Netherlands. While not all prostitutes in the Netherlands have been trafficked, or forcibly brought into a prostitution ring, it does become a sort of financial, emotional, and physical trap for many.
Two weeks ago, vendors in Washington began selling marijuana for recreational purposes. Initiative 502, passed in 2012, has finally been implemented. Majorities of both the state and the U.S. as a whole favor marijuana legalization, perhaps indicating legalization at the federal level is in the not-too-distant future. Don’t be appeased.
