Flying back to the continental United States after three slamming wins in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu, No. 8 Stanford women’s basketball (6-0, 0-0 Pac-12) fights to protect their undefeated season, venturing into the Pacific Northwest this Sunday to play Gonzaga (8-1) at 2 pm in Spokane, Washington.
While students across campus headed home for the holiday, Stanford women’s basketball spent their their Thanksgiving in Hawaii, competing in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu. They took on the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles on Friday, the American University Eagles on Saturday, and the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors on Sunday, emerging from the weekend with three wins. The Cardinal are currently undefeated on the season.
In day two of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu, Hawai’i, No. 8 Stanford women’s basketball (5-0) improved their undefeated season record with a 71-49 victory over American University (3-2). Led by senior forward Alanna Smith’s career-high 25-point performance, the Cardinal produced 26 points in the fourth quarter to outscore the Eagles.
In a game reminiscent of last season’s round of 32 playoff game, No. 8 Stanford (4-0) defeated Florida Gulf Coast University (2-2) 88-65 on opening day of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown on Friday. Junior forward Nadia Fingall recorded a career-high 24 points as the Cardinal outlasted the Eagles.
