Seven members of the Stanford tennis program were named to the All Pac-12 teams, which was announced Tuesday on the Pac-12 News website.
The Stanford women’s basketball team begins pre-season training with momentum after a strong season under coach Tara VanDerveer. Last season, the Cardinal finished second in the Pac-12 tournament, losing to Oregon in the title game. In the NCAA tournament, the team defeated Gonzaga and Florida Gulf Coast, reached the Sweet Sixteen for the eleventh consecutive time, but ultimately lost to Louisville in the round of 16.
For the second straight year, senior forward Chiney Ogwumike swept the individual Pac-12 awards, receiving both the Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. This is her third consecutive defensive award.
Six Stanford football players were named first-team All-Pac-12 honorees on Monday, tying the Cardinal with upcoming Pac-12 Title Game foe Arizona State for the most players on the team.
The Pac-12 women’s soccer awards were announced on Wednesday, and as expected, the top-ranked Cardinal were well represented. Five players were named to the all-Pac-12 first team, and two each were named to the all-Pac-12 honorable mention and the Pac-12 All-Freshman team.
In her four years on the Farm, the three-time All-Pac-12 honoree and 2010 All-American Rachel Quon and the Cardinal have gone a perfect 40-0 in first Pac-10 and then Pac-12 play. After two seasons that ended in defeat in the NCAA Championship match, Stanford broke through last season with a 1-0 victory over Duke to win the program’s first national title.
