No. 4 Stanford men’s tennis (18-2, 5-1 Pac-12) swept No. 31 California (10-7, 2-3) 4-0 Friday at Taube Family Tennis Stadium, completing the Cardinal’s first regular season sweep of the Bears since 2012. Senior Tom Fawcett and freshman Axel Geller’s doubles win and singles victories helped Stanford maintain its undefeated 9-0 home record and increase its all-time record against the Bears to 94-23.
This Friday on the farm, No. 4 Stanford Men’s Tennis (17-2, 4-1 Pac-12) will face rival No. 31 California (10-6, 2-2) for the second time this season. Fourth in the nation and second in the conference, Stanford is expected to shine against the Bears as they prepare for the Pac-12 championships at the end of the month.
It was a successful weekend of home matches for Stanford tennis as the No. 4 ranked men’s team (17-2, 4-1 Pac-12) and the No. 23 ranked women’s team (12-3, 6-0 Pac-12) each came up with a victory at Taube Family Tennis Center. The men’s team swept No. 32 ranked Utah (19-4, 2-2) with a 4-0 score on Saturday afternoon while the women took down No. 26 ranked Oregon (12-8, 3-5) on Sunday, 6-1.
Stanford’s No. 3 ranked men’s tennis team (16-2, 3-1 Pac-12) split a road series versus No. 4 ranked UCLA (19-2, 4-0) and No. 14 USC (12-6, 3-1) this past weekend, falling to the Bruins Friday before taking down the Trojans on Saturday. The loss on Friday was only the Cardinal’s second of the season.
Both women’s and men’s tennis teams are in action this weekend. No. 1 women’s tennis (1-1) has its home opener on Friday at 1:30 p.m. against St. Mary’s (1-3) at Taube Tennis Center.
