Nearly every player who joins the Stanford football team follows the same route: they hit the Farm in June as incoming freshmen, go through summer training camp and suit up in time for the season’s opening game. But every now and then, a couple of athletes choose a different path--one that leads them to the program in the midst of both the academic year and their Stanford careers.
In the midst of special dinner preparations on Friday, I sent a short survey to a few email lists. The goal? To get a broad look at students’ views on the football games bookending the Thanksgiving recess
It’s a refrain made popular by a handful of recent Stanford football players: as recruits, they weren’t seriously considering the Cardinal until they made their trek to the Farm. Then Stanford skyrocketed to the top of their list. Griff Whalen was no exception.
So if Bowlsby and co. get serious about adding another team, allow me to propose a candidate: men’s lacrosse
Freshman guard/forward Anthony Brown was invited to and will attend the USA Men’s U-19 World Championship Training Camp next month. He will join 16 of the nation’s top basketball players aged 19 years or younger, all of whom are competing for a spot on the 12-person squad that will play at the 2011 FIBA U-19 World Championship.
