With wins over University of Massachusetts (4-4) and Yale (4-4) this weekend, Stanford field hockey head coach Tara Danielson secured her 100th-career victory. The Cardinal are currently ranked No. 18 and will end their East Coast roadtrip as owners of a three-game win streak and a 4-4 season record.
Over the weekend, Stanford alumni in the NFL looked strong across the board on defense, while several offensive players registered standout performances.
On Friday night, No. 11 Stanford women’s volleyball (8-2, 2-0 Pac-12) headed north to take on Oregon State (7-6, 0-2 Pac-12). The Cardinal extended their road win streak, downing the Beavers in three sets and improving to a 64-0 all-time record against Oregon State.
No. 11 Stanford women’s volleyball completed a Bay Area sweep on its first real road trip of the season, handily taking down Saint Mary’s and Pacific in three sets each over the weekend and toppling Cal 3-1 on Tuesday night.
Stanford’s alumni made their mark in Week 1 of NFL play. Despite injury concerns sidelining several players, the majority of former Cardinal saw playing time this past weekend, including high-caliber performances from quarterback Andrew Luck, wide receiver Doug Baldwin and linebacker Blake Martinez.
Despite Stanford football having a bye, it remained a busy weekend on The Farm as men’s and women’s soccer, men’s water polo and women’s volleyball went undefeated, bringing in six wins in seven games at home this weekend, with women’s soccer tallying the only draw. The sole Cardinal team on the road, field hockey, dropped its two matches in Syracuse, New York.
No. 2 Stanford women’s soccer (6-0-1) continued its dominant play this weekend as it easily defeated No. 10 Minnesota (6-2-0) and came to a draw with No. 20 Notre Dame (5-1-2).
On Monday afternoon, Stanford Athletics Director Bernard Muir announced Andrew Fuller as the new head coach of Stanford beach volleyball. Fuller will be the third coach young program has seen since its inception in 2013 and the first to be recruited from outside The Farm.
