Behind heroic performance from Townsell, Stanford upsets Arizona State in home dual meet

No. 25 Stanford (7-1, 1-1 Pac-12) triumphed over No. 9 Arizona State (4-9, 1-1 Pac-12) in a dual meet unlike any other. Last Saturday, No. 20 junior Gabriel Townsell, wrestling in the 125-pound class, scored a 6-point move in the final match of the afternoon that stopped the Sun Devils from taking their first win in Cardinal territory since 2013.

Wrestling to wrangle with Sun Devils

No. 25 Stanford men’s wrestling (6-1, 0-1 Pac-12) will face No. 9 Arizona State (4-8, 1-0 Pac-12) in a dual meet on Saturday at the Burnham Pavilion. CSU Bakersfield (5-7, 2-1 Pac-12) inflicted the Cardinal’s first dual meet loss this past Sunday, clinching the upset 20-13. Stanford will get back into the groove of things tomorrow, aiming to restore themselves to their rightful place in winning-streak glory, but the competition will also be some of the toughest Stanford will have to face this season.

Undefeated men’s wrestling hosts Cal Baptist

Stanford men’s wrestling (5-0, 0-0 Pac-12) hosts California Baptist (1-2) at the Burnham Pavilion & Ford Center today for an evening dual meet. This is the first season that the Lancers have competed as a D1 program, and the team has understandably hit some road bumps along the way after competing against some of the best programs in the nation. Meanwhile, the Cardinal have experienced an incredibly successful season so far with a spotless dual record and stellar individual performances across every weight class.
