A message from John L. Hennessy and Nicholas B. Dirks

Nov. 19, 2015, 11:59 p.m.

Dear Members and Friends of the Berkeley and Stanford Communities:

On November 21, 2015, Stanford and Cal will square off in the 118th annual Big Game at Stanford Stadium, an event that has been a Bay Area tradition for more than a century. Our two universities share a strong football and academic heritage, as well as a spirited and storied rivalry.

We write to ask everyone to respect the tradition of Big Game, and to ensure a spirited competition on the field and a fun and safe experience for fans in and around the stadium. Thank you in advance for refraining from unsafe and ill-advised activities that may draw law enforcement and security personnel and resources away from responding to more pressing matters.

Please respect the Big Game tradition and celebrate your school spirit, pride and sportsmanship in a safe, positive and friendly manner. Enjoy the game!

With warm regards.

Yours sincerely,

Nicholas B. Dirks
