On Saturday night, there was no doubting that No. 7 Stanford (11-2, 8-2 Pac-12) played a complete game on the conference’s biggest stage to defeat No. 11 Arizona State (10-3, 8-2) 38-14 at Sun Devil Stadium and defend its Pac-12 title. The Cardinal booked its return trip to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl Game — the 100th Rose Bowl Game, no less — and will be going to its fourth BCS bowl game in just as many seasons.

I wrote earlier this year that I would never study abroad during fall quarter because I am a diehard college football fan, and it would kill me to have to watch home games at the crack of dawn via some questionable live-streaming site in some foreign country. And yet, I find myself guilty of not flying back to campus for the Notre Dame game. Trust me, it was painful watching from home, so I got my due punishment.

It’s that time of year again.
Three blasts from the train whistle pierce the chilly Stanford air at the top of every hour. The water in the school’s normally picturesque fountains is replaced by a sinister cardinal red brew. At the apex of The Claw sits a lone teddy bear, brutally impaled by the topmost spike in full view of students sporting “Beat Cal” shirts in increasing numbers.
