There are many great people involved with Stanford Athletics, and The Daily Sports Staff interacts with a large percentage of them. In honor of the top-10 issue, the following is a list of The Daily Sports Staff’s top 10 favorite people to interview.
Entering the 2013 season, Stanford women’s volleyball had an opportunity to take advantage of a rarity in college sports—the return of its entire starting lineup from the previous season. The young team, with a core of five sophomores, anchored by senior captain and middle blocker Carly Wopat, had its sights set on an NCAA-record seventh national championship and the school’s first since 2004.
Falling short of the Final Four and its ultimate goal of a national championship, the No. 7 Stanford women’s volleyball team (27-6) was defeated by No. 2 Penn State (32-2) in a five-set thriller in the Lexington, Ky. regional final on Saturday, 25-22, 22-25, 26-28, 25-18, 11-15.
In its final road game of the regular season, No. 3 Stanford’s women’s volleyball (23-5, 16-3 Pac-12) earned its 19th straight-set victory of the year against the Arizona Wildcats (19-12, 9-10) in its win in Tucson on Wednesday, 25-21, 25-17, 27-25.
