CAB to become a ‘branch’ of ASSU

At its last meeting of the academic year, the ASSU Undergraduate Senate endorsed the nomination of almost 100 students to University committees, established the Community Action Board (CAB) as a permanent institution of the ASSU and approved the new elections commissioner and Publications Board chairs.

The fate of the second floor of the Nitery remains unclear, according to ASSU leadership, despite the ASSU Publications Board’s claims that the space was slated to become a “Graphic Design and Writing Center” for student publications.

ASSU convenes final meeting for 2010-11

At its last meeting of the academic year, the Undergraduate Senate failed to confirm an elections commissioner, a move that may stand in violation of ASSU governing documents. According to the Joint Bylaws, both the Undergraduate Senate and Graduate Student Council must approve a new commissioner by the end of spring quarter.

Senate debates spending bills

Last night, the Senate passed a handful of funding bills, approved its budget for next year and passed several action items, notably creating ASSU Parliamentarian and Publications Board consultant positions and appointing Emma Ogiemwanye ‘12 as ASSU executive chief of staff.

Senate deals with NomCom, Pub Board

The Undergraduate Senate settled into office yesterday. At its first full-length meeting Tuesday night, it confirmed the membership of Senate committees, passed funding bills and discussed two separate pieces of legislation–one that would create paid consultant positions on the ASSU Publications Board (Pub Board) and another that would establish the office of ASSU Parliamentarian.

ASSU calls emergency meeting

The ASSU Undergraduate Senate held an emergency online meeting on Saturday, June 26 to approve a funds transfer for Stanford Friends of Tibet, which otherwise would have had to wait until September to reimburse two of its guest speakers.
