University fellowships seek to promote interfaith dialogue

This year marks the 12th birthday of the Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band’s (LSJUMB) mascot: the Tree. After a week of treehouse building and naked guitar strumming, computer science major Calvin Studebaker ’15 beat out two other competitors to become Stanford’s next Tree, a role he has embraced with gusto since taking the reins from Nicoletta von Heidegger ’13 in February. The Daily sat down with Studebaker to get the scoop on his Tree Week tryouts, as well as what he hopes to bring to the table come football season next fall.
A record number of people—about 3,000—registered for this year’s Parents’ Weekend, including about 130 grandparents and 80 siblings. Among them, over 90 percent of parents registered online.
The first part because I like food and getting off campus. The second because a list of restaurants seemed quite drab, and I happen to be in the mood for role-play.
Parents’ Weekend 2012 began today with a welcome address from Provost and Acting President John Etchemendy.
Parents’ Weekend, an annual showcase for the parents of current undergraduates, brought more than 3,500 pre-registered family members to campus over the weekend. This attendance level represented a six percent increase from last year’s 3,300 attendees.
Ah, yes, the time each year when our beautiful little Stanford bubble gets popped for a few days so our parents can experience the fun and relaxation of The Farm. Stanford organizes a bunch of cutesy events for our parents to attend and finishes the whole grand gesture by making sure to ask them for even more money. You know, on top of the $55,000 they already pay annually to send us here.
The Stanford Store, a division of Stanford Student Enterprises (SSE) is on schedule to open at its new location at the former site of the Stanford Ticket Office on Feb. 24. SSE proposed the move last May as a response to lackluster sales at the store’s current location behind Tresidder Union.
