Men’s tennis eliminated in close loss

The Stanford men’s tennis team fell on Saturday afternoon to top-ranked and undefeated Virginia in a gut wrenching confrontation that came down to the last match — a duel between two seniors. The No. 8 Cardinal laid it all out on the court early Saturday evening, but its best effort came up just short. UVA defeated Stanford 4-3 as the shadows were lengthening over the Taube Tennis Center.

Men’s tennis: Setting the Tone

The Stanford men’s tennis team started the NCAA Tournament in style this past weekend, dispatching of Army and Washington to clinch its spot amongst the final 16 teams. The match against Army was a blowout from the very start — with the Cardinal easily winning 4-0 — and the match against Washington was deceptively close, with the Cardinal still managing a resounding 4-1 victory. With the two wins, Stanford has now won 12 straight matches and is on its longest winning streak since taking 18 matches in a row back in 2001.

Men’s Tennis: Klahn falls in men’s singles finals

Nine players on the sixth-ranked Stanford men’s tennis team traveled to Ojai, Calif., this weekend to participate individually in the Pac-10 Championships. Four hot days later, the tournament came down to a match between the top two players on the top two teams — No. 1 Steve Johnson of USC and No. 9 Bradley Klahn of Stanford.

Men’s tennis defeats Cal in Big Slam

The Stanford men’s tennis team finished the season in style on Saturday afternoon, defeating No. 14 Cal, 4-3, in the annual Big Slam at home. Beneath an unseasonable gray sky, Stanford’s top players performed their best to secure a remarkable 10th consecutive win on the No. 8 Cardinal’s Senior Day.
