Double majoring facing downward trend since 1980

Both students are in a shrinking minority of double majors, according to an October Faculty Senate report. While nearly 10 percent of Stanford undergraduates graduated with a double major in 1990, that number has dropped by half two decades later, hovering just above 5 percent in 2010.

Science pre-orientation to prepare frosh

Building on the successes of other summer bridge programs, such as the Stanford Summer Engineering Academy and Stanford Pre-Orientation Trips, starting in fall 2012 Stanford’s Leland Scholars Program (LSP) will offer a three-week, residential program for incoming science-oriented freshmen from under-resourced backgrounds.

University names six new Bass Fellows

Provost John Etchemendy Ph.D. ’82 and Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education Harry Elam recognized six faculty members as Bass University Fellows in Undergraduate Education last week at Stanford’s first “Celebration of Undergraduate Education.”
