As part of a countywide initiative to build walking and biking trails, Stanford has proposed a “perimeter trail” route that would complete a network of regional trails connecting the Arastradero Preserve to the Bay.
A citizen coalition called Fair Share at Stanford is pressuring the Board of Trustees and University officials to intervene in a tax dispute involving one of Stanford’s tenants, alleging that the tenant has unjustly withheld millions of dollars in taxes from Santa Clara County. The University has declined to involve itself in the case.
San Mateo County supervisors voted 4-1 last Tuesday to postpone the decision of whether to accept Stanford’s proposal to repair a portion of the Alpine Trail, opting instead to ask Stanford to consider three additional alternatives and conduct an environmental review before the next board meeting on Dec. 13.
San Mateo County should accept the University’s $10.2 million offer to upgrade the trail along Alpine Road, according to Assistant County Manager David Holland in Tuesday’s staff report.
