It was all smiles for Stanford’s baseball team on Sunday afternoon, as freshman Cal Quantrill’s dominant 126-pitch shutout — the Cardinal’s first since Mark Appel ‘13 went the distance on Mar. 28, 2013 — capped off the team’s first series win of the season.
There’s something magical about March Madness.
When else would we closely follow a Butler versus Bucknell matchup? When else would we realize that there’s a school named Florida Gulf Coast? And when else could I convince my mom to join the family in trying to predict the results of 67 basketball games?

Last Thursday, having gorged myself on a hearty (turkey-free, since I’m a vegetarian) meal, I collapsed onto my motorized reclining couch at home and started sinking into a gastronomic coma. With drooping eyelids while trying desperately to stay open to watch the snooze-fest that was the Raiders playing the Cowboys at JerryWorld, my time awake was going to be quite short.
