After a 9-8 overtime win against No. 5 Pacific on Sept. 21 at the NorCal Invitational, No. 3 Stanford faced the Tigers once again this Sunday, where they were not able to secure a second victory. Despite a late drive led primarily by sophomore driver Bret Bonanni and fifth-year senior two-meter Forrest Watkins, the Cardinal was defeated 14-12 in the match.

Junior women’s basketball forward Chiney Ogwumike named USBWA National Player of the Week, four men’s water polo players named ACWPC All-Americans and senior Ashley Morgan captures Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week honors.
Then, in what seemed like the blink of an eye, USC (15-0, 2-0 MPSF) ambushed the back of the Cardinal net and put the game out of reach with four third-quarter goals and a stalwart defensive display. The first of those goals came less than 30 seconds into the second half, and the Trojans followed it up with another before 60 seconds had ticked off the game clock.
The 2011 season ended on a bitter note for the No. 4 men’s water polo team this past weekend in Los Angeles, marked by another top squad’s unsuccessful campaign to bring a national championship home to the Farm.
