Starting this summer, the rooftop catwalks of Florence Moore Hall (FloMo) will be removed in a change that has prompted protest from some current residents.

Residential networks connected to upgraded backbone network
IT Services has started to connect all Stanford residential networks to a newly upgraded backbone network in an effort to reduce the possibility of network failures and Internet outages such as the one that affected residences across campus last month.
Transfer class cut by nearly half to compensate for high yield rate
Thirty-three transfer students received offers of admission this year out of a pool of more than 1,500 applicants, according to Assistant Director of Admission Kate Shreve. This year’s 2.2 percent acceptance rate is nearly half of last year’s 4.1 percent rate, when 58 of about 1,400 applicants were admitted.
Bike crash highlights helmet use
Stanford’s Bicycle Program, in conjunction with the Department of Public Safety, is working to improve traffic control and congestion on campus by installing bike-specific stop signs and riding guidelines on the roads. Two recent bicycle-related accidents, however, contribute to this existing call for increased focus on biker safety and responsibility, according to those involved.
Inter-dorm water conservation competition kicks off
Florence Moore (FloMo) residence halls kicked off Stanford Water Wars, an inter-dorm water conservation competition, Sunday. Each hall’s water consumption will be measured from Feb. 12 to March 12 through an Aquacue Barnacle, a water management product that claims to record the amount of water used with at least 99.5 percent accuracy.
