After seven straight seasons of winning the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference championship, the Stanford women’s lacrosse team found itself in an unfamiliar position on Sunday as Oregon claimed this year’s title.
After an up-and-down season filled with close wins and disappointing losses, the Stanford women’s lacrosse team honored its seniors with a 16-7 rout of Saint Mary’s last Sunday in its last conference game of the season. The win capped off an exciting weekend for the Cardinal, coming just two days after the team defeated rival California when senior Emilie Boeri scored a game-winning goal in the final 24 seconds of regulation.
The Stanford women’s lacrosse team found itself in a familiar situation against San Diego State on Sunday afternoon. After blowing a four-goal lead in the first half, the Cardinal trailed the Aztecs 11-8 with 15 minutes remaining.
A slow offensive start coupled with a slew of turnovers caused the Stanford women’s lacrosse team to drop its matchup against Denver last Saturday, registering its first conference loss of the season.
The Stanford women’s lacrosse team dropped the last two games on its East Coast trip to finish a grueling nonconference schedule with a 2-7 record. But despite the losses, the elite competition may have paid off for the Card, which routed Fresno State 20-3 on Tuesday night in its first conference matchup of the season.
