No. 4 Stanford will host No. 2 Michigan, No. 6 Cal and Washington’s club gymnastics team at Burnham Pavilion for Saturday’s Stanford Open, as the Cardinal will look to maintain the momentum it generated with two straight dual-meet victories against the Golden Bears to begin the season. Last weekend’s win extended Stanford’s win streak against its archrival to nine.
It was a good weekend for Cardinal gymnastics, with both the men’s and women’s teams putting on a show in front of the home crowd. On Saturday, the No. 3 men’s squad took down No. 4 Cal for the second time in as many weeks. Then, on Sunday, the No. 12 women’s team picked up a comeback win in a tri-meet with Arizona and Sacramento State.
A select group of eight athletes from the men’s gymnastics team will head to Las Vegas this weekend for the Winter Cup Challenge, a re-ranking meet for the U.S. Men’s Senior National Team.
The No. 3 Stanford men’s gymnastics team beat No. 2 California on Saturday, 364.4 to 358.8 in front of a large Burnham Pavilion crowd. The Cardinal bounced back from last week’s loss to the Golden Bears, improving its overall score by over 15 points and easily putting up its highest team score so far this season.
