If it was looking to bring more success to the Farm, Stanford athletics made the right decision when it decided to add women’s sand volleyball to its existing 35 varsity sports programs. In its inaugural season, the Card finished 7-1, sweeping all three meetings with Santa Clara, falling only to Saint Mary’s and coming out on top against Sacramento State, San Francisco and Pacific.

The Stanford sand volleyball team won its inaugural contest in style, defeating Santa Clara 4-1 at the ACSR Sand Volleyball Courts on Tuesday. A crowd of over 200 fans showed up to support the Cardinal and catch a little slice of history.
No. 2 Stanford begins its bid for a seventh NCAA title Friday against Jackson State at 8 p.m.
W. Volleyball: Stanford wins three straight to close out regular season, earns No. 2 seed for NCAA tournament
After seeing its 22-game win streak come to an end, the No. 2 Stanford women’s volleyball team had to begin anew, starting with its matchup with UCLA on November 16. Three games and three victories later, the Cardinal had officially regained its mojo, ready to take on any opponent in the NCAA Tournament.
On the same night the No. 1 women’s soccer team beat UCLA to advance to the College Cup, the top-ranked Stanford women’s volleyball put its own stamp on the evening with a 3-0 sweep of rival California in the final regular season match of the season, officially taking the Pac-12 crown with a 19-1 conference record.
The last time the Stanford women’s volleyball team lost a match, Stanford was not close to being in session and Barack Obama and Mitt Romney were a month away from their first presidential debate. Thursday night in Los Angeles, Cardinal’s incredible 22-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of No. 8 USC, 3-1.
