Perhaps nothing said more about the contrasting attitudes of the Stanford women’s volleyball team and its opponent, the Oklahoma Sooners, than the demeanors of their respective head coaches. While Sooners head coach Santiago Restrepo stood the entire match and was constantly in the ears of his players, 29th-year head coach John Dunning of Stanford was as calm and composed as usual. Dunning’s confidence in his team was evident, and rightfully so, as the Cardinal continued what it hopes will be a championship run in the NCAA tournament.
In its final road game of the regular season, No. 3 Stanford’s women’s volleyball (23-5, 16-3 Pac-12) earned its 19th straight-set victory of the year against the Arizona Wildcats (19-12, 9-10) in its win in Tucson on Wednesday, 25-21, 25-17, 27-25.

Having just grinded out a four-set victory over UCLA after a five-set marathon defeat to No. 4 USC, the Stanford’s women’s volleyball team will not get a break this weekend. The Cardinal begins a four-match road trip tonight against the Colorado Buffaloes in Boulder, Colo., where the Buffs are undefeated in five conference matches this season — with three of those wins coming against ranked opponents.
