Stanford football was ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press (AP) Poll released Saturday morning, marking the 48th consecutive week that the Cardinal has been ranked in the AP Poll. During this stretch, Stanford was in the top ten for a total of 30 weeks. The AP top-five preseason ranking comes on the heels of being ranked No. 4 in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, No. 4 in ESPN’S Power Rankings and No. 2 by Sports Illustrated.
Alabama cruised past an overmatched Notre Dame squad 42-14 to win the BCS National Championship, then wrapped up its ninth Associated Press championship on Monday night with all 59 first-place votes. Stanford finished seventh in the AP final poll and sixth in the final coaches’ poll.
