Despite personal collegiate-best showings for senior Kristina Vaculik on vault and for freshman Nicolette McNair on bars, Stanford’s women’s gymnastics team fell just short of a win against defending Pac-12 champion No. 16 Oregon State (3-1, 1-1 Pac-12) in Corvallis, Ore. on Monday night. The No. 12 Cardinal (10-1, 2-1), which suffered its first loss of the season, had early gains in the meet, but was ultimately edged 197.100 to 195.750.
It was a good weekend for Cardinal gymnastics, with both the men’s and women’s teams putting on a show in front of the home crowd. On Saturday, the No. 3 men’s squad took down No. 4 Cal for the second time in as many weeks. Then, on Sunday, the No. 12 women’s team picked up a comeback win in a tri-meet with Arizona and Sacramento State.

The women’s gymnastics team has not competed since its fourth place finish at the Pac-12 Championships on March 23, which marked the 13th year in a row that Stanford finished fourth or better at the conference championships. At the meet, the Cardinal faced an early deficit but finished strong due to a couple of standout individual performances.
